We do not publish our own speed numbers. A figure produced on one connection, in one city, on one afternoon says almost nothing about what you would see on yours. What can be said usefully is how the technology behaves and what to expect from it:

Privacy & Security — Can You Trust Their "No-Logs" Claim?

NordVPN's privacy policy states that it keeps no logs of your activity. What separates it from the rest of the category is that outside parties have checked. There have been six independent no-logs assurance engagements since 2018, in 2018, 2020, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025. The most recent was carried out by Deloitte Lithuania under the ISAE 3000 (Revised) standard, with auditors working through the infrastructure between November 10 and December 12, 2025, covering the standard servers along with the Double VPN, Onion Over VPN and obfuscated ones. They inspected configuration files and live system logs rather than reading a policy document.

Separately, the Austrian testing lab AV-Comparatives evaluated NordVPN in its 2026 Anti-Phishing Certification. In AV-Comparatives' May 2026 Anti-Phishing Certification test, NordVPN's next-gen antivirus blocked 96% of 275 live phishing URLs and produced no false alarms across 200 legitimate banking-related sites. AV-Comparatives requires at least an 85% block rate with no false alarms to earn that certification. Worth knowing before you buy: Threat Protection Pro is not included in the Basic plan, and it runs on Windows and macOS only.

No VPN can protect you from tracking on websites you're logged into (like your Google account) or from your Internet Service Provider if you're not using the VPN. A VPN is one layer of protection, not a complete solution.

What the UK Situation Actually Means for You

Two things make the British picture different from the American one, and the large US review sites cover neither.

The first is jurisdiction. The Investigatory Powers Act lets UK authorities compel a telecommunications operator to retain data and hand it over, under a notice the operator is not allowed to disclose. That framework reaches providers with a UK presence. NordVPN is registered in Panama, where no equivalent retention duty exists, and runs its servers from RAM rather than disks, so a machine that loses power has nothing left to hand over. Whether that reassures you is a judgement call. It is the right question to ask of any provider, and it is the one the pricing pages never answer.

The second is the Online Safety Act. Since age checks came into force in July 2025, sites hosting adult material or self-harm and eating-disorder content have had to verify age through photo ID or facial estimation, and British VPN sign-ups rose by four figures within hours. NordVPN reported roughly a tenfold increase in UK subscriptions in that window. In July 2026 Ofcom published its first statutory report on age assurance, and the government told Parliament it will not age-gate or ban VPNs, placing the burden on platforms to detect circumvention instead. What this means in practice is narrower than the headlines suggest. Buying and using a VPN is legal in the UK and is not about to stop being legal. What is unsettled is how hard individual platforms will work to spot one. If your reason for subscribing is a service you already pay for, that barely touches you. If your reason is getting past an age check on one particular site, expect that site to improve at detecting VPN traffic, and think twice before committing to a two-year plan on the assumption that today’s behaviour lasts.
